Civil Rights activist, Mallam Shehu Sani, said in Kaduna Wednesday that he led a delegation of some families of suspected Boko Haram members to a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to find ways of securing the release of the abducted schoolgirls.
Sani said in a statement made available to The Nation that the meeting which took place at the Abeokuta residence of the former President was aimed at opening a new channel of dialogue with leaders of the sect and secure the release of the missing girls.
He said, “My statement is in response to the reports and the enquiries on the Abeokuta meeting with the former president Olusegun Obasanjo and some family members of the Boko Haram group. The renewed effort to dialogue with the leaders of Boko Haram is being pursued with vigour.
“This is to confirm that the meeting actually took place and I was part of it. The meeting was solely aimed at exploring the possibility of opening a new channel for dialogue or negotiation with the sect members towards securing the release of the abducted Chibok girls held in captivity for over a month.”
He noted that the meeting between the former President and families of Boko Haram members appraised the reportedly collapsed back door deal that was later cancelled by the Government.
“I wish to also confirm that the report of the intervention of Mr. Salkida in negotiating the release of the Chibok girls is credible.
“I personally introduced Salkida to the government and spoke about him in many of my previous interviews. He has tried his best in the past and of recent to help in resolving the insurgency through dialogue but was on all occasions frustrated by the government.
“Mr. Salkida should not be vilified but should be appreciated. Mr. Salkida’s attempt could have actually see to the release of the abducted girls. The meeting in Abeokuta was aimed at repackaging and salvaging the dialogue option. It was generally agreed that the initiative cannot take off without the consent of the Federal Government. It’s significant for Nigerians to note that negotiation is the only safer option to get the girls back home,” Sani stated.
"You can imagine if this government had not been facing these distractions within this period, definitely, we would have moved farther than this. All these distractions are planned to bring this government down and since they failed, terror will also fail.
“We have been witnessing terror attacks for two years plus, but the Chibok incident has added a major dent on the security of the country. There is nothing God cannot do. With your prayers, our girls will be seen by our security personnel. Terror will not stop this country from progressing. We know that these terrorists are human and they are evil men. Definitely, they are among those we categorise as evil forces.
Forces of evil will never prevail. Forces of darkness will never prevail. I call on all Nigerians, Christians and non-Christians who pray, to continue to pray and I believe that God is on our side. Forces of evil and darkness will never prevail.” the president said.

“It is important that we keep the momentum up so that these girls do not become yesterday's news until they are safe. So please spread the word,” concluded Aisha Oyebode.

Real Madrid secured an historic 10th European title as they came from behind to secure a thrilling 4-1 win over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon on Saturday.
Diego Godin capitalised on a dreadful error from Iker Casillas to head home shortly before the end of the first half, but Ramos powered home from a corner in the dying minutes of normal time to keep Madrid's Decima dream alive.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in additional time, Bale headed into the top corner after Angel Di Maria's shot was saved by Thibaut Courtois before Marcelo buried a late left-footed strike and Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty to seal Madrid's first Champions League trophy since 2002.
Victory means Ancelotti has now won Europe's top prize as coach on three occasions, making him the most successful in the modern tournament's history, while Atletico were left to rue another late goal in European football's showpiece. The club's only other final appearance, in 1974, saw Bayern Munich force a replay – which they won 4-0 - with a 120th-minute goal.
Much of the pre-match talk surrounded the fitness of stars Ronaldo and Diego Costa, but both started, although Arda Turan was not so lucky and missed out with a knee problem.
Simeone's experiment to start Costa – who travelled to Serbia for specialist treatment on a niggling hamstring injury in the build-up – quickly backfired, though, as the striker limped off in the ninth minute and was replaced by Adrian Lopez.
Chances were few and far between in a cagey first 30 minutes before a sloppy Tiago error saw the contest come to life, with the midfielder conceding possession in his own half, only for Bale, after a menacing run, to shoot wide.
And Bale's missed chance proved costly in the 36th minute as Godin gave Atletico the lead against the run of play.
Real failed to clear a corner and Juanfran's header back into the box caught them napping, meaning goalkeeper Casillas had to come storming off his line.
He was too late to win the ball, though, and agonisingly saw Godin beat Sami Khedira and put a looping header over him and, eventually, over the line.
Thibaut Courtois had to be alert to tip over a deflected Ronaldo free kick in the 54th minute and the Real talisman spurned two more opportunities in the next 60 seconds, firing a snapshot wide before producing a wayward header.
Ancelotti's men kept pressing as Isco missed the target with a long-range effort and although Atletico were still a threat on the counterattack, they were forced back as Real ramped up the pressure in the last 20 minutes.
First, Bale lashed wide before Ronaldo fired over with a scissor-kick and the chances kept coming as another storming run from the former ended with an errant shot.
Desperate blocks were the order of the day as far as Atletico were concerned, but Real's perseverance eventually paid off as Ramos superbly planted a header in the bottom-left corner from Luka Modric's corner to force extra time.
And the added half-hour proved crucial as Real hit the lead with 10 minutes remaining through Bale, who raced to the far post after the brilliant Di Maria's shot was partially saved to head in.
Marcelo then made his mark before Ronaldo, who had already claimed the record for the most strikes in a Champions League season, sealed victory with his 17th goal of the campaign

Gani Adams
The Oodua People’s Congress has described the continued seizure of the over 200 Nigerian girls abducted on April 14 by the Boko Haram insurgents in Chibok, Borno State, as a slap on the nation’s security.
OPC National Coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams, said the development indicated that the country was not safe for residents.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent during the week, Adams said the insecurity was a potent factor that could prevent investors from bringing their resources into the country.
He, however, condemned the recent attacks on Nigerians in Kano and Plateau states where scores were killed by the Boko Haram terrorists.
Adams urged the Federal Government to look beyond the military in the fight against the Boko Haram menace by engaging relevant stakeholders.
He hailed members of the vigilance groups that recently prevented attack on the people in some communities
Adams said, “Majority of the Boko Haram members are not Nigerians; they infiltrated Nigeria through illegal routes. Report claims that there are 1, 400 illegal routes in the country. That is why we members of the National Security Committee suggested that there must be community police different from the regular police.
“We suggested that the community police must be well equipped to arrest and prosecute suspected criminals. We also suggested that border security must be emphasised to check the persistent infiltration of the country.”
Adams urged the Federal Government to rescue the Chibok schoolgirls still held by the Boko Haram insurgents.
He, however, denied involvement of OPC members in the lynching of suspected kidnappers in Lagos State.
Adams said OPC, which he described as a peace-loving organisation, did not participate in all the cases of jungle justice recorded in the state.
Reacting to insinuation in some quarters that members of the group have been responsible for the lynching, Adams, who claimed that jungle justice had been in existence centuries before OPC was formed, denied that his members were involved in the dastard acts.
