Female Suspect Lament: My boyfriend made me leave prostitution for armed robbery

Twenty-four-year-old Sherifat Bakare and four other members of her gang, were apprehended on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 by the men of Ogun State SARS, who had been on their trail after receiving a tip-off about the gang’s plan. She told Punch, It all began a few weeks ago when another member of the gang, Bola Onasile, (also in SARS custody) had approached her boyfriend about the availability of N70m in a wealthy man’s house in Joju area of Sango, Ogun State.

I am from Idofian in Kwara State. My father is late but my mother lives in Ibadan. She has no idea I do this kind of job and she does not even know I am in police custody.I was living with a security guard in a house at Osborne in Ikoyi. The landlord of the house was out of the country. I was going from there to ‘hustle’ in Lekki every night.Raji was a good helper to me. That was why I decided to leave prostitution when he begged me. When he introduced me to armed robbery, I asked him if there would be no problem and he assured me that there would be none. When we started dating, I did not know he was an armed robber though.”I was hustling before Raji, my boyfriend, told me to join his gang........

I have only gone on two operations with them. I don’t know him (Onasile) well. I only know that he was the one who brought the job.Raji gathered other members and they snatched a vehicle (a Nissan Quest) around Iwo Road, Ibadan. We decided that the vehicle would be used for the operation. The gang asked me to sit in the front of the vehicle so that when we were stopped by policemen on the way, being a woman in the front seat would make them unsuspicious. But during the operation, the police cornered us and Raji was shot dead."

36-year-old Onasile, who brought the N70m job, was evasive when our correspondent asked him how he knew about the money. He later said that an acquaintance of his, a man named Tunde, informed him about the money.

“Tunde is like a brother to me. He told me the man we were going to rob was his relation. He said the man had N70m at home. I told him I had no boys who could do the job. But he was always disturbing me about getting a gang together to do the operation.

“Few days later, I informed Raji about the operation and he told me he could get boys for the job. We planned to sell the vehicle we snatched after the operation but we did not know how police got to know about the operation. Tunde ran away when the police were after us.”

AGAIN, Boko Haram under pressure as food supply runs out

BokoHaram-WIT-GUNS

According to reports, the increased presence of Boko Haram insurgents outside their Sambisa forest stronghold might be due to the need to stock up on food.

It is believed in some quarters that the need to feed the over 200 abducted girls and the insurgents themselves, has depleted the food reserves of the sect causing them to venture out on more raids.

The members of the sect are believed to have focused their raids on markets and villages in which food is carted off with the favourites being grain and bread.

Residents of the attacked villages have said that the constant stealing of foodstuffs was suspicious prompting the belief that the 200 extra mouths of the schoolgirls might be the reason.

Punch reports:

Residents of these communities told Saturday PUNCH that the rate at which the insurgents stole their foodstuffs was unprecedented, noting that the pressure to feed the abducted girls might have contributed to the desperation of the insurgents to steal and kill the villagers in the process.

One of the villagers, Bukar Umar, who resides in Kamuyya village in Borno State, told one of our correspondents that though it was normal for the insurgents to ask

communities to contribute money towards “God’s work,’’ they were usually satisfied when communities raised money for them.

He, however, said the insurgents in recent times had stepped up their activities by invading their communities and carting away food items.

With the pressure on Nigerian soldiers to clamp down on the Islamic sect, it was learnt that the insurgents no longer felt safe to go to markets to buy food items for fear of being arrested.

Some of the insurgents recently met their waterloo in Madagali, Adamawa State, where they were given up by a local food vendor from whom they had planned to buy foodstuffs.

It was also learnt that the violent sect had begun to pile up food items in preparation for a long drawn battle with the military, especially as the United States, United Kingdom, France, Israel and other foreign collaborators are assisting the Federal Government to ensure the safe return of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.

With the allied forces believed to be on the ground to help the Nigerian military rescue the girls, it was learnt that the insurgents did not want to be caught unawares by running out of strategic resources, especially food.

Saturday PUNCH further learnt that this development also contributed to the latest strategy of carting away food from communities, and the rustling up of the residents’ cattle in the last one week.

Unconfirmed reports had indicated that certain helicopters used to drop food items and other needs in the Sambisa stronghold of the Boko Haram group.

Security experts said the growing focus on the Sambisa forest must have disrupted the routine of the helicopters, thus putting pressure on the group’s supply chain and fueling more attacks on villagers in the North-East.

Wife Tells Court How The Husband Begged Her To Allow Him Use Her Womb For Money Rituals In Oyo

court

A man in Oyo has urged a court to end his marriage of 11 years due to his wife’s troublesome nature.

Ademola Adelanwa told the customary court sitting in the Idi-Ose, Ibadan area that his wife, Opeyemi was always nagging.

The wife on the other hand said that she had suspected her husband of stealing her panties because he had once asked her to let him use her womb for money rituals.

Tribune reports:

Ademola told the court that his wife was in the habit of blackmailing and accusing him falsely before their family members, neighbours and church members.

He added that he had since stopped attending church programmes and packed out of the family house and now stays in a rented apartment.

“There was a time she accused me of stealing her panties for money rituals.

“I was embarrassed when I learnt she had told people about it.

“ As God would have it, she later found her panties in the village,” he said.

“My wife is fond of nagging, causing trouble and likes to prove tough in the home.

“I have been putting up with her troublesome nature over the years and on three

occasions, considered seeking a divorce, but changed my mind because I had to put some things into consideration.

“ I was forced to send her out of our home the last time she fought with me,” he added.

Opeyemi, reacting to the allegations admitted that she accused her husband of stealing her panties because he was the only person she could point fingers at since he once urged her to allow him use her womb for money rituals.

She stated that they had endured a lot and stayed together despite the low financial status of the family and swore that under no circumstance would she marry another man. She, therefore, prayed the court not to grant her husband’s prayer.

The court president, Amusa Makinde, observed that the two parties had not displayed enough love to sustain their marriage and therefore urged them to have a rethink for the sake of their children.

He adjourned the case till June 2.

Emir of Askira speaks on Boko Haram convoy attack, Says "It was a narrow escape”

Following Boko Haram’s audacious attack on the convoy of Emirs who were on their way to attend the funeral of the Emir of Gombe, the Emir of Askira, HRH Mai Abdullahi Ibn Muhammadu has made his thoughts known to the public.

The Emir escaped by the skin of his teeth but the Emir of Gwoza was not as lucky as he was said to have been shot in the head during the Boko Haram attack.

Abusive Men Should Not Be Condone By Churches - Funmi Iyanda

Funmi Iyanda has expressed her opinion on men who beat their women, saying they should be excommunicated from churches. She also gave ladies few rules and made them understand they are the captain of their own ship.

“No family/church/institution should encourage a daughter to return to an abusive relationship/marriage. If you touch my child, l will kill you.

‘Girls, rule 1. There are no princes anywhere waiting to rescue you. You own and owe you; not him or anyone else. Leave at first slap.

“Churches, if not so concerned with the bottom line of patronage would excommunicate abusive men or women,’’ she said. Funmi got upset and made those statements when a Twitter user with the handle @Moe narrated how a man almost took the life of his wife who is nursing a baby and how her efforts to separate them was fruitless.

Here is how Moe explained what she witnessed;

“My hands are shaking. I have never seen a woman being beaten like that in my entire life. I have never. I was driving when I noticed strange movements inside a car that was driving in front of me. Before it stopped so abruptly, I noticed weird movements in the driver and front passenger seats.

I wasn’t wearing my glasses. As the car stopped, I came down (from) my car to holler. Next thing I saw clearly. The man (driver) was punching the passenger so hard. He was beating her so ferociously. All windows were up. There was a baby in a baby car seat behind. I kept hitting the windows, at last the man rolled down. At this time I was so furious.

“‘How dare you beat a woman like that?’ was all I kept saying. The man replied ‘I am not a mad man that I will just be beating her for no reason; ask her what she did. See my shirt. She tore it.’

“I went to the passenger’s side, opened the door and asked the woman to come down. She said ‘I do not have anywhere else to go.’ She sat there in the car, the man kept beating her. As he was beating her, he kept screaming ‘How many times? How many times?’

“I kept begging the woman to come down. She just closed the door and rolled up and he kept beating her. I kept hitting the car. Then, they drove off. I don’t even know how to react. I am still on that spot, trying to make sense of what I just experienced.”

'Fuji music is very dangerous' - Singer Etcetera writes..

Singer turned Punch Columnist Etcetera writes on why Fuji music is dangerous. Read below...

Fuji music and I got divorced at a street carnival on October 1st, 2010. I just couldn’t take it anymore and thought it best that we went our separate ways. I guess the feeling was mutual because that was the same day I recovered my sanity and my personal cool.

What would I become if I wasn’t aware of myself anymore? Unlike many adults, I have no stomach for music that makes me want to vandalize my home and for some crazy reasons; I have discovered that some fuji songs that are popular right now make you want to assess your mental state. The simple truth is one can’t remember any of such songs getting posted daily on blogs. I can only recognise a handful of artistes mentioned by some die-hard and unrepentant fanatics in my hood.

There was a period in time when it was actually important to know who was who, and who was better than the other lyrically or vocally. Then, having fuji songs on your playlist was like having a cool smile on your face. The stranger your fuji references, the more you would have boys believe in your supernatural powers. And you even believe that the gods must be happy with you.

What is really going on? Fuji music is now all about autotune, carrot jeans and mohawk? Doesn’t this combo spell any danger? Maybe not yet. Now I see a bunch of fuji artistes who are of the opinion that carrot jeans, mohawk and autotune are the essentials of modern fuji music.

Just like hiphop, fuji was a religion. Fuji was original. It was a culture. Fuji made it possible that for a time in our history, parents and their kids were actually enjoying the same music at the same time. Now the temple of fuji has been desecrated with today’s fuji artistes lifting choruses from popular hiphop songs.

I miss the good old days when touts would converge around the motor parks and people would blame it on fuji music. Whatever happened to the utter disgust that your neighbors would have for the fuji songs blasting through your bedroom door? That was In the days when fuji music was a movement and a rallying point for boys in the hood. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to be?

Why would I wander into a club of today’s music when I know I might bump into that same tasteless whining banshee called autotune? And I might actually be forced to listen and dance azonto. I might as well listen to a whining South African Kwaito music and see the blood rolling down my chin. Good God, now that is a genre that I am glad to put behind me.

Just because I don’t have the ear for today’s fuji music doesn’t mean that I don’t love Pasuma. I have every album he has ever made, every new release and every new single.

With fuji music, sometimes the general intro sounds really good and make you feel alive. And at that point when you start nodding your head to just what music should feel like, and thinking you have discovered a sound from another planet or maybe from an alien music colony, the vocalist decides to introduce himself with a terrifying and dangerous shriek that leaves you looking for pain killers.

I am glad to finally get away from today’s fuji. The music scares the hell out of me, but in a very intriguing way. Naturally as music, some folks consider fuji as noise in the actual sense. What is even more dangerous is the fact that the singers are never on key. But yet again, don’t people also say that highlife is scary and dangerous too?

Please Lord; don’t let me listen to another song from a Naija blog ever again. It is fast emerging as the perfect way to listen to music and forget it immediately. Wait a minute, he sounds a lot like er..er..er, that’s what you always get. So why don’t I just punch up the original?

I am in dying need of some highlife in my veins right now. The good thing is that most times I travel to Ibadan on visits, I often stay at Premier Hotel where some of our old musicians go to for relaxation. And I love it. On a given weekend, I’ll run into an old favorite like Kwam 1 at the bar or bump into Adewale Ayuba during breakfast. They say the last stage of grief is acceptance. And I have accepted my grief. I have been a man in love with music, and the music that I love is mostly gone, long since tamed by today’s sound.

But all the same, let me put on my shoes, pour myself a glass of soft drink and relax with Osondi Owendi by Chief Osita Osadebe or the (puke in your face) remix by late Mc Loph, and be happy knowing that music is music, just as sex is sex, and these two things will always find a way to go together like a nice cold soft drink and an evening at Elegushi Beach.

So please keep your carrot jeans, unusual eyeglasses and that Mohawk while I am loving it here chilling with my Oriental Brothers.

Chaiiii: if your child (re)designs your visa this way, What would you do? (SEE PHOTO)

Destroyed passport

Getting a visa to visit a foreign country is a tasking process so obviously those visas are well protected when eventually gotten.

Unfortunately for the owner of this passport and visa however, children don’t really have a clue about how much goes into the process hence the painting of the visa in the picture.

What would you do if you were outside the country and your child designed your visa in this way?

Presidency confirms Army report : ‘We know where the abducted girls are’'

Doyin Okupe

Following claims by the Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh that the Nigerian Army has discovered the location of the missing Chibok girls, the Presidency yesterday confirmed the reports.

This was disclosed yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe during an interview with American news station, CNN.

Okupe said:

“As an insider; I am saying that the location of the Chibok schoolgirls is now known and President Goodluck Jonathan is doing everything possible to ensure their safe return”

The Tribune reports:

The confirmation came a week after the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, disclosed that the Nigerian military had discovered the whereabouts of the schoolgirls.

Also, a competent source within the presidency debunked the rumour that President

Goodluck Jonathan was angry with the CDS over the revelation to the effect that the Nigerian military had discovered the whereabouts of the girls.

The source further said that the president was not unmindful of the effect of the positive development on the morale of the Nigerian military.

According to the source, “if the Americans had made the breakthrough, that would have been the end of the Nigerian military and the president, as the Commander-in-Chief, knows that at all times, he must show and have confidence in the capacity and competence of his troops.”

Dr Okupe assured the nation and the international community that very soon, the nation’s security forces would secure the release of the abducted girls and reunite them with their parents.

SUSPECTING HER? SEE 10 undeniable signs she’s trying to flirt with you

black-woman-happy

I’m going to lay something out right off the bat here: There is no definitive answer to the “Is she flirting with me?” question.

Women are individuals who each have their very own unique way of attracting you, loving you and driving you totally insane. That’s just what we do, man. However, when it comes to flirting, there are a few signs that you should be sure not to brush off as just a casual pleasantness. Women are individuals, but we are also as obvious as men are oblivious, so let me help you get laid

She’s Chatting Up Your Friend But Keeps Her Eyes On You

I’m about to introduce you to a really ridiculous thing called the “Cheeseburger Principle.” Think about when you’re hanging out with your friend and you see your friend eating a cheeseburger. Even if you’re trying really hard not to eat meat or something, just watching him eat that burger makes you want it even more. Right? OK, so some terrible advice columnist took this so-called “principle” and applied it to flirting.

Is it true? Yes. It’s true. Sometimes a woman will flirt with your friend just to try to entice you, but she’ll make sure it’s always within your vision and will direct most of the energy toward you. I’m not a fan of this. I think it’s backward, game-playing nonsense, but some people do play this card.

She Keeps Walking By

If it seems like she continues to walk by with apparently no sense of why she’s there, she’s there for you. She’s trying to get you to notice her with this obvious sign she’s flirting, and you need to say something endearing. By walking past repeatedly, perhaps out of her way, she’s telling you she wants your attention, but she’s making you work for it.

She Draws Attention To Her Mouth

A woman’s mouth can be extremely seductive, and we’re fully aware of this fact. Some of the effective signs she’s flirting are: applying lip gloss, running her finger across her lip or using the straw in her cocktail instead of just sipping from the glass. There is a tremendous amount of flirtatious energy tied up in a woman’s lips. Lips are flirting tools that are both potent and effective.

She Singles You Out

If a woman finds a way to get you away from the rest of the social gathering you may be in, whether it’s a crowded bar of unfamiliar people or an intimate dinner party of friends, she’s trying to tell you she wants to be alone with just you. We will use really odd excuses to get you alone sometimes, so don’t be thrown off by the unconventional nature of the request. If you’re into it, go for it.

She Mimics Your Body Movements

For some reason, when human beings are interested or infatuated with each other, they begin to pick up certain traits from the other person. If she’s mimicking your mannerisms — the way you hold a drink, or the way you’re sitting — she may very well be interested in gaining your attention. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all.

She Plays With Her Hair

While relatively simple and commonplace, in the right hands, a woman’s hair is a versatile weapon. When trying to get your attention, she may twirl her hair or let it cascade in front of one eye, in an attempt to create a sense of come-hither mystery.

She Touches You

If a woman is talking with you, casually at a party or a bar, and she finds a reason to touch you (other than breaking her fall or punching you in the face), she is sending you a big, fat signal. This is the oldest, most obvious trick in the book. When she reaches out and lightly touches your forearm or shoulder, hand or wrist, you know you have a live one. You need to reciprocate, because there are few clearer signs she can provide.

She Makes Eye Contact

Just like birds are attracted to shiny things and fly toward them, people tend not to be able to look away from something they find interesting and attractive. You can feel when a woman is eyeing you. She’s not always going to come up and talk to you, but if she keeps giving glances in your direction, glance back and see if anything connects.

She Enters Your Personal Space

Personal space, by definition, is where others are not. When a woman enters this space, say, brushing past you with a glance and a smile, she’s inviting a response with this sure sign she’s flirting. The caliber and character of her invasion will give you cues as to how you should respond.

She Approaches You To Talk

Her approach is her strongest flirting card. It allows her to maintain eye contact, play with her hair, lightly touch you and mimic your mannerisms, among other flirting techniques. If she has come over to talk to you, she wants to know what you’re all about. It’s the first step in the interview process called dating.

Presidential fact-finding committee visits Chibok--#BringBackOurGirls

Parents-of-chibok-girls-search-dor-their-children

The fact-finding committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the abduction of the Borno schoolgirls has finally visited Chibok, the village from where the girls were taken.

The members of the committee visited the village yesterday as part of their investigation into the events of April 14, when the girls were taken.

The development was disclosed in a statement delivered by the committee’s spokesman, Kingsley Osadolor to journalists in Abuja.

Nigerian Eye reports:

The committee had on Sunday left Maiduguri for Abuja after spending eight days in the troubled state without visiting Chibok.

Osadolor said the committee members were received at Chibok by the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Musa Kubo, Chairman of Chibok Local Government, Bana Lawan, five district heads of the surrounding communities, Chairman of the Parent Teachers Association of the affected school, the principal and parents of the abducted

girls.

Some of the students, who escaped from the insurgents, were also said to be on hand to meet with the committee members.

The statement read, “Members of the committee visited the burnt-out structures of Government Secondary School, where the girls were abducted. The receiving party conducted members of the committee round the grounds of the school.

“The principal, vice principals, matrons of the hostels, as well as security guards and cooks were earlier debriefed by the committee in Maiduguri.

“The committee later held an interactive session with the Chibok communities on the school premises. At the meeting, Chairman of the Fact-finding Committee, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Sabo (retd.), who spoke with misty eyes, said the committee came, first, to sympathise with the parents and other community members over the havoc of the insurgents.

“He assured the people of President Goodluck Jonathan’s concern about the fate of the abducted students, saying that the President was having sleepless nights.”

Sabo was also quoted as urging the people to be calm and patient because government was adopting a multi-faceted approach to resolve the abduction saga.

“As we gather here today to see you wailing, by the grace of God, we will also gather here to dance and rejoice with you when the girls regain their freedom,” he was further quoted as telling the parents.

Osadolor added that the Chairman of the local government, praised the committee for visiting and bringing messages of succour and hope to members of the communities.

He said the council boss berated those who had claimed that the mass abduction was a political scam.

“The greatest fact your committee can find are the biological parents of some of the students who were abducted,” he said.

The Commissioner for Education, Kubo, also expressed happiness over the visit by the committee.

He urged members of the fact-finding committee to convey to President Jonathan the people’s hope and belief that the girls would be found and reunited with their families.

Others who spoke at the meeting, according to the statement, included Rev. Enoch Mark, whose two daughters are among the schoolgirls still unaccounted for.

Mark reportedly frowned at what he called the politicisation of the abduction, pointing out that the matter was also not religious because the families affected were adherents of the country’s major faiths.

The committee has since returned to Abuja.

See How 4 students were arrested after cult initiation And How They Leak Each Others Blood

The police in Ondo have arrested 4 secondary school students after it was alleged that they were involved in cultism.

Lawal Lateef, 18, Felix Victor, 17, Nsoani Stephen, 18 and Festus Francis, 18 were apprehended as they emerged from a deserted area where they had allegedly undergone initiation rites.

The 4 were found with dangerous weapons and suspicious items and were taken into custody by the officers.

According to Sahara Reporters:

Spokesman Wole Ogodo told SaharaReporters that a patrol team of the Anti-robbery Squad of the Command arrested the students on Akure-Owo road, near the Emure-Ile junction, shortly after their initiation rites, adding that dangerous weapons and charms for initiations were recovered from them.

It was revealed that the teenage students took a membership oath, including licking each other’s blood and drinking different concoctions, before they recited and learned membership greeting codes.

SaharaReporters gathered exclusively that the arrested students attend St. Francis High

School on Oke Aro road in Akure, the state capital. A former student of the school described the institution to our correspondent as “a public secondary school known for its hooliganism.”

According to Mr. Ogodo, a fetish axe on a rope and a reddish piece of cloth were recovered from the students along with a small calabash in which the concoction might have been made.

“The students were apprehended as they were returning to Akure from Owo and [they] confessed,” the spokesman said. “They had been in the bush for initiation between 1am and 4am.”

The case will be handled by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Command before it goes to trial.
